Staying Home to Get Away…

Could it be any easier?

Originally, the back yard sloped dramatically from the house toward a pond at the bottom of the hill – basically, an unusable yard. And for a family with small children and a love for entertaining, they were looking for some help. The homeowners were looking for a getaway and that’s exactly what they got.

First order of business was to bring the grade up to allow for a swimming pool, plant beds, and a unique entertaining space. From a new deck on the house, natural stone steps bring you down to the swimming pool deck which is a combination of concrete pavers and natural stone. An outdoor living room under the barreled roof is perfect for entertaining. And the favorite feature of this living space is the custom, wood-burning, stone fireplace that provides heat on cool spring or fall nights. The basalt rock water feature nearby offers the sound of splashing water when the swimming pool is quiet.

Lighting on this project highlights the wood and stone work making the space warm and inviting even without a fire in the fireplace. LED lighting in the swimming pool cycles through a rainbow of colors extending through the water arcs of the mini-jets in the pool deck….a fun feature that entertains the two children.

Several living areas on different levels keep this back yard interesting. There is an intimate breakfast area close to the house, an elevated deck space for the summer family bar-b-cues, the swimming pool deck area for sunning away the lazy days of summer, and the lodge-like atmosphere of the living room, complete with a roaring fire in the fall. This is one private getaway…making the idea of getting away from it all easy.
