Hostas

Shade tolerant garden heroes

Hostas are the work horses and heroes of many Minnesota gardens. Generally easy to grow, and shade-tolerant hostas come in infinite variety of sizes, shapes and colors. If you think hostas are ordinary, you haven’t seen some of the giant glowing leaves of  ‘Orange Marmalade’, or the striking texture of the ‘Krossa Regal’ or ‘Hadspen Blue’. Spring is a good time to divide hostas, and use them to fill out empty spaces in the garden. Or swap them with the neighbors. Here’s a simple explanation of how to divide hostas from the Better Homes and Gardens website. http://www.bhg.com/gardening/flowers/perennials/how-to-divide-hostas/
